Testimonials Art Retreat

"We have never been to Europe and we expected the touring component to be the highlight of our time away. This was not the case as our time at icscis with Monica and Yves was not the restful anticlimax we expected but the ultimate experience"

"Yves is a master at working with all degrees of experience from none to those who have been painting for a while. He is a powerhouse of knowledge, his art history talks opened yet another doorway for me. And yes fellow participants; all experiencing their own joy at seeing their work develop...it more than met my dream. (H. Wadrop, North Yelta, Australia, Studio Italia 2015)

Prof. Yves M. Larocque
(B.A. in Art Theory and B.A. in Visual Arts, University of Ottawa,
M.A. University of Montréal,
D.É.A. and Ph.D. Art History, Université de Paris I, Sorbonne)

Professor Yves M. Larocque is icscis | Walk the Arts' founder, director and main instructor. His studies in Paris and Montreal gave him the opportunity to work with renowned French and Canadian artists| philosophers. His 30 years of teaching art or painting at the college | university level made him one of the best painting instructors in Canada’s national capital, the reason why he was invited by several intuitions in the U.S.A, Canada and Colombia to lecture on various art topics.

Yves is fluently bilingual. He teaches both in English and French. Therefore, bilingual instruction is ensured.

In 2000, Yves made the important decision to devote most of his time to art teaching and to his blog. He still paints a lot, masters drawing and colors, but most important, he fosters creativity — he strongly believes that everyone can paint. His art has been shown in Europe and both Americas; many of his paintings are part of private collections. His works are still shown in several group exhibitions, most importantly Arteder 82 at the Muestra de’Arte Grafica of Bilbao, Spain. Moreover, a public TV network produced a short program on his works. His ultimate goal? That you succeed.

His participation in the artistic domain goes beyond painting. Many times, his voice has been broadcasted on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a known art critic and historian. Also, as art historian he regularly publishes in periodicals such as La Vie des Arts (Montreal), Liaison (Ottawa), Médium (Paris), RACAR (Canada), Histoire de l’Art, RACAR and Médium (Paris). He was the founder of Nuit Blanche Ottawa. His conferences on art history have taken him across Canada and to France, the Netherlands, Colombia and the United States.

Thanks to Yves’ vast knowledge, you will learn about not only the many aspects of colours, compositions, perspective and contrast, but also about content, concept, and context, for a work of art always incorporates sensitivity and intelligibility. With Yves you can be sure to return home with a new commitment toward painting.
